East of Scotland Dental Golfing Society
East of Scotland Dental Golfing Society. The Society, founded in 1920 within the
framework of The British Dental Association (BDA), was established to “cement
together” dental golfers in “a relaxed and convivial atmosphere” thereby helping to
“keep some sanity in their hum-drum, stressful, professional lives”. The Society “broke
away” from the BDA to allow dentists who were not members of the BDA to become
members. Early meetings of the Society were held at Kilspindie, Gullane, which hosted the first competitions for the Society’s first trophy – The Brunton Putter. This putter belonged to the first Secretary to the Society, Arthur Brunton, who doubled as
Treasurer. The Society, which has had some notable “wooden spoonists”, has been
continuously active, except during World War II, remains well supported to this day. The
Society tie was introduced in 1966. The original version of the tie had a plain green
background. Subsequently, ties of the same design but with navy and maroon backgrounds were introduced
