Great Ormond Street Hospital
Great Ormond Street Hospital GOSH, as this hospital is often referred to, was founded
in 1852. It was the first hospital in England to have inpatient beds specifically for
children. The hospital is one of the world’s largest centres for child heart surgery,
including heart transplants. The hospital is closely associated with University College
London. The Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery Department at GOSH provides a
comprehensive maxillofacial and dental service to children referred to the hospital,
typically because of complex or unusual medical histories. The Department has close
links with the North Thames regional cleft lip and palate service. The hospital -GOSH tie
may be worn by past and present members of the medical
and dental staff of the hospital
