Guy’s Hospital Dental Society 1898-1999
Dental education began at Guy’s Hospital in 1799. Guy’s Hospital Dental Society was formed in 1894, five years prior to Guy’s Hospital Dental School being established. The first President of the Society was Mr Newland Pedley, founder of Guy’s Hospital Dental School. WC Wood and Montagu Hopson were founding Secretary and Treasurer respectively. The society had a continuing existence through until 1999 when King’s College London Dental Institute was created by the merger of the United Medical and Dental Schools (UMDS) Dental School and King’s College Hospital Dental School. The example of the society tie (20358.3 – condition, worn) is understood to date back to the 1980s.
