Hong Kong Dental Association
Hong Kong Dental Association Hong Kong Dental Association (HKDA) was founded
in 1950, formerly known as Hong Kong Dental Society. The Association
representing >90% of the registered dentists in Hong Kong, with a membership in
excess of 2000 members. Since its establishment, the Association has
encouraged and provided opportunity for lifelong learning and enhanced
professional skills and standards amongst its members. The Association is
recognised as the representative organisation of the dental profession by the
Hong Kong Government. In the 1950s and -60s, when dentistry was not yet fully
developed in Hong Kong, the Association advised the Hong Kong Government on,
for example, water fluoridation, the setting up of what is now the Faculty of
Dentistry of the University of Hong Kong and creating a training school for dental
hygienists. The Association’s, distinctive, bright yellow tie with HKDA woven into the material of the tie, is unusual amongst dental
ties in being monochrome.
