Kings College Hospital Dental School
King’s College Hospital Dental School King’s College Hospital (see above) developed
King’s College Hospital Dental School in 1923, having appointed the UK’s first Professor
of Dental Surgery (- Professor Samuel Cartright Junior) in 1860. The formation of the
dental school was proposed by the Hospital Chairman, Viscount Hambleden, perhaps
motivated by the 1921 Dentists Act. For the first fifteen years of its existence the school
had fewer than 10 students in each year of dental programme. The King’s College
Hospital Dental School tie (20391.1/19975.3 – condition, XXXX) dates back to the 1990’s,
prior to the school merging with the United Medical and Dental Schools (UMDS) to
become the Guy’s King’s and St Thomas’ Dental Institute
