Lindsay Society for the History of Dentistry
Lindsay Society The Lindsay Society was established in 1962 to promote research into the history of dentistry. It brings together members of the dental profession, historians and others to research and discuss the history of dentists and
dentistry. The Society is named after Lilian Lindsay (1871-1960) the first woman to qualify as a dentist in the UK and a leading dental historian. Mrs Lindsay became the first woman to become President of the British Dental Association in 1946. The Society bow tie ( 21609 – condition, new) was specially produced to be
worn at the Society’s sixtieth - diamond jubilee- annual conference gala dinner in the Titanic Centre, Belfast on 8 October 2022. The Society logo, commissioned by the then President Dr Stuart Robson and designed by his daughter Vicky, was introduced at the Society's golden 50th anniversary meeting in Cardiff in 2012. An Aesculapian staff, with entwined serpent and arrowhead, indicating 'upwards and onwards' is positioned along the spine of the open book of knowledge of history.
