Royal Navy Dental Services.
Royal Navy Dental Services The Royal Naval Dental Services (RNDS), formed in 1920, was based on the Royal Naval Medical Services, except that service at sea was not necessary for promotion. The purpose of the RNDS has been to promote and maintain a level of dental fitness which insures that the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines are not impaired. Between 1920 and 2020, a total of 14,388 dental officers –“Toothwrights” or “Toothies”, served in the RNDS. The RNDS tie which is understood to date back to sometime in the 1980s, features multiple RNDS crests on a blue background.
